Byfield National Park        Posted 4 April 2008

Bill Ludwig  is happy to advise that as foreshadowed Three Rivers/5 Rocks Beach has been officially re-opened and the status quo reinstated  I.E. no action regarding beach permits will be taken by Council Local Law Officers until such time as the QPWS Management Plan is adopted or the Rockhampton Regional Council meets and formally directs otherwise.  Also all fines issued over the Easter week-end will be quashed.

While this is good news for the short-term I believe it is imperative that we still proceed with the planned ‘Keep 5 Rocks/Three Rivers Beach Open Rally’ on Sunday 20th April.     The real concern is that ADF and QPWS will be pressing on to achieve their previously stated preferred position of having the beach access permanently closed.  Suggest everyone take the time to get as many people and vehicles as possible to attend the rally and suggest we set 11.am as the time to ensure people have time to get there.   The ‘rally’ really needs to get a good roll-up to ensure we send the strongest possible message that we as a community are prepared to stand-up for our right and the right of future generations to freely access these beaches.   Would appreciate if people could get back to me with likely numbers of vehicles and people that they know are intending to participate.   If we have a good idea of attendance we might be able to arrange a sausage sizzle and possibly a ‘tree planting/dune revegetation’ working-bee to coincide with the rally.

Please advise Russell Mason, 0407 020 141 if you are interested and wish to participate.
